FOR SALE: Pete the Pony – 13.2hh, 7yo Purebred Connemara Legend Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, step right up… may we present: Pete. Part pony, part therapist, part Hollywood diva, part small furry con artist who has somehow convinced everyone he meets that he’s the main character. Because, frankly, he is. The logistics, Pete is basically a five-star hotel guest who tips well and never complains, good to shoe, clip, for the dentist, for the vet, easy to catch, loads like a dream, and travels better than most toddlers on a long car journey. Getting Pete ready for a show is easier than getting the kids out the door for school and he’s never once asked “are we there yet.” The fine print, Pete does have opinions when it comes to hypnotic fillers and water trays, which in his professional and unwavering assessment, portals to another dimension, possibly containing pony-eating monsters. Beyond that one small act of protest, he is as genuine as they come, no bucking, no bolting, no biting. What Pete lacks in filler-tolerance, he makes up for tenfold in heart. This pony rebuilt our daughter’s confidence brick by brick after a tough fall, and never looked back — carrying her round her first ODE at 70cm, out to country shows, Pony Club rallies and camp, competitions, arena hires, and XC training, all with that unmistakable “watch me” sparkle in his eye (and the quiet confidence of a pony who knows he’s good at his job). He’s a genuine anyone’s pony: happy to dial it down for a nervous or novice rider, or dial it up for someone wanting to push on and compete. Leave him in the field for a week eating his own body weight in grass, hop back on — he’ll pick up exactly where you left off, no fuss, no fireworks, no diva behaviour (unless a water tray is nearby, in which case, see above). Turn him loose on a hack, or let him stretch out into a full gallop across an open field, and he is, quite simply, having the time of his life. Kind, genuine, endlessly forgiving, and a certified confidence machine. Pete just wants to please, have fun, and be paid in carrots. Up to date with vaccinations, comes with a green passport, and because he’s clearly accustomed to the finer things in life, a full tack and wardrobe collection included, because obviously a pony this fabulous needs options. The only reason he’s for sale is that my daughter has outgrown him. If growing him instead of her were an option, this ad simply would not exist, and we would be having a very different, much stranger conversation. Quirks aside, this pony is 1,000,000/10, no notes, would recommend to a friend. A very good boy in search of his next great partnership. No time wasters, please this is heartbreaking enough already.
