8.5 gallon planted shrimp tank

I have inert sand for substrate. I have a 8.5 gallon planted shrimp tank. I want to add 2-5 Malaysian trumpet snails to turn the sand. My only reservation is that I am scared they will overpopulate and I will regret ever adding them. I feed my shrimp a few pellets once a week and a zucchini once a week. Advice please?
